Technology has always been part of how people create. We use tools like software, printing techniques, manufacturing processes, digital research, and countless other technologies to bring ideas into the world.
But there is something we want to preserve at the centre of our process: human authorship.
Every Hungry Minds product is created by real people. We do not use AI to generate our creative work or develop our portfolio. Everything you see, read, and hold was brought to life by human creativity.
Before the Product, There is a Lot of Work
When you first see an illustrated book like The Book: The Ultimate Guide to Rebuilding Civilization, you might not imagine that it was illustrated entirely by hand, for example. You see the finished pages, but you don't picture the hours of dedication, brainstorming, research, sketching, writing, and more than 5,000 hours of work that went into bringing the book to life.
We want our products to come from people who are truly dedicated to what they are creating. People who take a genuine interest in the subject matter, study it, and create based on their own experience and expertise.
That means accepting that the process can take longer. We evaluate and discuss our projects with illustrators, writers, designers, editors, researchers, manufacturers, and other specialists from all over the world, always seeking the best result as possible.
The Slow Part is the Point
Here's something we've learned over the years: the first version is almost never the right one.
When we start a new product, we spend weeks just researching, talking to people, reading feedback (including the honest kind), and looking for gaps. Finding the absolute last version takes time, patience and a trained eye, and there is no shortcut to that.
That does not mean every person will respond to a product in the same way. Creativity is personal, but it does mean there is a human story behind what you are holding, and we believe that is worth something.
Why We Work this Way
People sometimes ask why we’ve chosen to do things this way, after all, we could have less work and higher profits at the end of the month. The answer is that we are truly passionate about the work we do. We don’t see the process as an obstacle because we enjoy every second of it.
The process is where the product gets its character, and each decision we make along the way leaves a mark on the final result. This is how our team's experience and taste end up in high creative products.
There's also a matter of responsibility. When a person makes something, they stand behind it. If you write to us with a question or a concern, you're talking to someone who is part of the creative process. We like that kind of accountability because it feels like the right way to build a relationship with our public.
What are you Purchasing
When you buy a Hungry Minds product, you are purchasing the time, dedication and expertise of many professionals that went into it.
In the end, the things we create are not just collections of information, images, materials, or ideas. They are the result of people investing their time and creativity to make something authentic and memorable.
